イーグルスは世の中の闇を巧みに描き出して人々に警告を発する活動をずっとしてきたバンドです。
1976年にリリースされ全米第一位を獲得したイーグルスの大ヒット曲ホテルカリフォルニア。その隠喩に満ちた歌詞によって様々に意味に解釈される謎の多い歌です。
私にはどうもこのホテルカリフォルニアが1966年にアントン・ラヴェイがカリフォルニアで設立した悪魔教会とダブって見えるのでその雰囲気を醸し出しながら訳してみました。
